All Women + Nonbinary Inclusive Acappella at CMU

Counterpoint was founded in 2000 by Carolyn Weger as Carnegie Mellon’s first all women & nonbinary inclusive acappella group. Since then, we have worked hard to redefine the limits of an all treble voices a cappella group's potential. Our dedication and friendships with one another infuse our music with warmth and unity.

In 2008, we founded the AcaPittsburgh benefit concert, and we have been holding concerts to benefit local causes and non-profits every year since. We also compete at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) annually. In 2020, we placed second at the ICCA Central Quarterfinals and moved onto Semifinals but unfortunately were not able to perform due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2024, Counterpoint placed second at the ICCA Central Quarterfinals and we moved onto Semifinals on March 9th, 2024 in Buffalo, NY. Some of our other concerts at CMU include Harvest Concert, Almost Midnight A Cappella, No Instruments Aloud, the Carnival A Cappella Concert, and our Spring Concert.

AcaPittsburgh

AcaPittsburgh, founded in 2008, is a benefit concert that we host annually. With all of Carnegie Mellon’s a cappella groups performing in addition to guest groups, AcaPittsburgh is the largest a cappella concert of the Fall semester. This year, the concert raised over $3000 for the Homeless Children's Education Fund, a local non-profit organization that aims support the educational needs of children experiencing homelessness in Allegheny County! The show featured Counterpoint, C# Singers, Db Singers, The Orignals, ReFlexion, Saans, Soundbytes, Joyful Noise, and Treblemakers. Thank you to everyone who came out to support!
